Practice loop

Set how many bars you play, how many you rest, and how many times the cycle repeats. The click uses the tempo and meter stored in this browser. Optional count-in bars come first. A BPM step raises the tempo after each finished repeat.

Repeat

Session tempo: 120 BPM. Change it on the metronome or in the bar at the bottom of the page.

Use 0 if you want the next repeat to start at once.

How the loop counts

The calculator does not invent a second metronome. It starts the shared click and watches beat one of each bar. Count-in bars run first. Play bars are the work. Rest bars keep the click going while you wait. After the last repeat, the click stops.

A BPM step is added to the stored tempo when a repeat finishes, then the next play block uses that new tempo. Set the step to 0 if the tempo should stay still. Meter, accent, and volume stay whatever you last set on the metronome page.

Full-page navigation stops Web Audio. If you leave this page, use the session bar to resume the click when you return. The count-in guide spells out the order of the bars. Finished and stopped loops appear on the practice log.

Worked examples

8 play, 2 rest, 4 repeats

At 120 BPM in 4/4, eight play bars last 16 seconds. Two rest bars last 4 seconds. Can you keep the figure even through all four repeats?

Count-in of 2 bars

Two bars of click come before the first play bar. Do you enter on the downbeat after those two bars, not during them?

Step of 4 BPM

If the session starts at 100 BPM and the step is 4, the second repeat is 104 and the third is 108. Does the figure stay clean as the click moves?

Questions

Does the loop keep clicking if I open another tool?

A full page load stops Web Audio. The session remembers that you wanted a click, so the bar at the bottom can offer a way to resume the click. The loop itself has to be started again on this page.

What if play bars is empty or zero?

The tool will not start. Enter a whole number greater than 0 for play bars and for repeats.

Is this a recording of my practice?

No. The click is generated in this tab. Nothing is uploaded.
